FAVORITE COLLECTIONS: Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2010-2011

This collection from Balenciaga by Nicholas Ghesquiere IS SHRIMPDICULOUS. The first time I saw it I focused on the shoes, which are truly a work of art- BUT THEN as I saw it pop up in more fashion spreads I picked up on little intricacies. Finally one day I watched the show itself and my mind couldn't even begin to wrap around the silhouettes, couldn't even begin to understand the textures (let alone how they were created), the color schemes in all of their brilliance. It was like this post-tech neo-easter dream! It's what Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century's costuming could have looked like if it has a Fifth Element budget... and you know, not been on the Disney Channel. But the point is this is truly inspired. I have never in my life seen some of the things that are in this collection and that is true design in all of it's peculiar wonder.

ON REPEAT: "Constant Surprises" by Little Dragon

Little Dragon is slowly becoming one of my all time favorite bands. There's a calm and a sureness in their music. But, let me just say- it's ALL ABOUT Yukimi Nogano. She has such a buttery smooth voice and what really makes her a fascinating vocalist is that she has so much power but only gives you hints of it's extent. In this song she cooly lays every word and locks in the sentiment with subtle wails (2:35:00) of sporadic soul. I think aside from the clean nature and cool soul of this song, it's the subject matter that puts me in a good place. The song is all about every occurrence happing because it was absolutely imperative to the progression of a story: "constant surprises comin' my way- some call it coincidence but I like to call it fate."
